#WIPMarathon Introduction

Guys, I have a confession to make: I have been a HUGE slacker lately. After all of my hard work and dedication a few months ago writing a book in five weeks, I have hit a wall.

I'm not sure what happened exactly. I finished my story and was just...disappointed. In the end it wasn't the story in my head and it is a huge mess. I mean all over the place, characters acting out of character because I was bored, sloppy wording, awkward dialogue just for the sake of dialogue, eighty different plots going on just to keep me entertained. I mean it, its really really bad. But I am still in love with my story. Its one that has kind of been there all along and I just had to get it out.

That being said I have been tinkering with rewriting it since, but half-assed. I haven't really set a goal for myself, I only pull it up when I feel like it, and when I am finally working on it I allow myself to get distracted (obscene Twitter addiction- you should probably follow me) and don't give it my all. Its horrible.

That being said, I found out about something fun from Megan Paasch who has been diligently working with the #WIPMarathon hashtag on Twitter and I decided that this is something that I want to do too! Go Here for all of the details and to see who else is involved! What Ifeoma Dennis has put together is truly exciting!

You should join us, it'll be fun!

To begin, my Introduction:

Marathon Goal:

My goal is to finish my rewrite by the end of September so that I can start the finicky edits by October. I have so many other stories that I want to tell, but until I deal with this one, I don't think I will be able to really let go and give them my all.

Stage of Writing:

At this point I have my very very VERY rough first draft. I am about a quarter of the way through my rewrite before I can start the major edits -wording, punctuation-

What Inspired My Current Project:

Hmmm. I'm not even really sure. The story has been simmering for so long now that I don't even remember the first time I started thinking about it. I have tried many times to write it but nothing seemed right until I finally just took the plunge and wrote without thinking. I have a mess to clean up now but the bones of the story that I want to tell are there.

What Might Slow Down My Marathon Goal:

Life. I have a five month old baby who is starting to teethe, a five bedroom house to keep up on, endless laundry, parents who are moving in with me. But the truth is: me. These are all easy excuses, and yes I am busy, but I am my biggest hinderer. I get self conscious, or lazy, or start to feel guilty for the slack that my husband has to pick up when I am consumed with my writing. Its all on me. Isn't that the way of it?

So anyway, lets do this. Find me on Twitter, or drop me a comment here and lets shoulder through this month together! We can do eettt!!!

  1. Yay I am so glad you are doing this! What genre do you write? I know what you mean about your baby taking up a lot of time. I have a three month old. Hasn't started teething yet, so I guess I should be thankful :) Good luck in your revising!

  2. I love that since I've gotten on Twitter that I have met so many mothers who are writing. It's so inspirational! I write contemporary romance. I have written for as long as I can remember but when I had my daughter and got the opportunity to stay at home I started taking my dreams more seriously! Thanks for commenting!
